React Native or Flutter in 2026: decide from the hard screens

Both toolkits are maintained. This is a way to choose using your team, your existing web code, and the screens that must use the device. There is no benchmark and no winner.

No winner is declared here

As of October 2026, React Native and Flutter are both active, maintained toolkits for cross-platform applications. Release details move. Recheck the current docs before you commit a year of work to either one. This article cites no speed ranking and no market-share figure.

A company website does not need either toolkit. This choice is for software people install, or use as an app, when one team is building for more than one platform.

Questions that actually change the cost

Answer these from the product you have, not from a demo tutorial.

Decision questions, not a scoreboard
QuestionWhy it changes the build
What language does the team already ship in?A toolkit that matches the team avoids a second hiring market.
Is there a React web app whose logic should be shared?React Native can share TypeScript with that app. Flutter will not.
Which screens must use camera, payments, background work, or offline storage? Those screens decide the native cost. Build a spike of the hardest one before you choose.
Do you need one custom visual system everywhere?Flutter’s rendering model is built for that. React Native leans on the platform’s components unless you replace them.
Who maintains this in two years? The bus factor matters more than this year’s conference talks.

A lean toward each

Lean toward React Native when the team writes TypeScript, you already have a React web product, and you can budget native modules where a platform API requires them.

Lean toward Flutter when you want one rendering toolkit across the platforms you support, and the team is willing to work in Dart, including the custom interface.

If the hard screen is a thin wrapper over a website, consider whether an installed app is the product at all.

What we would do in a project

List the screens. Spike the one that touches the device. Then choose, and write down what you refused. Orvia House does not keep a house religion about either toolkit. The website and web-application practice is separate and is usually not a mobile toolkit at all.
